Sharing Scientific Contributions
to Improve Race Relations in Detroit Public Schools

The striving City of Detroit is sharing scientific miracles of African Americans with every school in his public school system with Mrs. Karen Harrison's purchase of 300 framed posters listing inventions, inventors and their patent numbers. This effort makes the City of Detroit the country's leader in highlighting the intellectual contributions of African Americans beyond black history month through the public school system.

Mrs. Karen Harrison, Director of the Office of Science for Detroit Public Schools, has ordered each Detroit public school a framed poster that honors more than 200 inventions by African American men and women entitled "Black Miracles."

"This information will improve self-esteem for African American students and improve the respect level of all other ethnic groups for African Americans," says Ray Mapp, author of the Black Miracles Poster. Included on the poster are major scientific contributions we depend on every day for safety and comfort.

The Detroit Public School system is serious about incorporating the positive history of all ethnic groups in an effort to teach respect and improve race relations. With the increased threat of terrorism and war, it is urgent that our students learn to respect the rights and potential of all people regardless of their race.
